Add A Rustic Element - Barn Doors

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

I love the idea of adding a rustic element in a more modern space...
HGTV Dream Home 2011

In the 2011 HGTV Dream Home the designer  used a vintage barn door as a piece of art (and a conversation piece!).  Even though she designed a more modern space, she knew this piece would work in it -  "It's an antique but has a very modern graphic feel about it," says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

I also like the way designer Sherry Hart used this rustic barn door in this nursery.   It looks awesome and adds so much character and interest, don't you think? To see the rest of this nursery transformation, click here.

Have you or are you considering adding a rustic element to your space? If so, what?

Hope your year is starting out fabulously!

Doors in Unexpected Places

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

At Home Arkansas Photo Rett Peek

I always love seeing things used in ways that they weren't originally intended to be used, and the doors in this post are a great example of that.

What makes this particular image even better is that the beautiful color on this barn door is original...

I think these are probably actually shutters, not doors, but...

Those of you who have been in blogland for any amount of time probably have this concept down, but just a reminder to always keep your mind open when looking at anything. You know what it is, but what could it become?

Another reminder that the Pattern Inspiration Linky Party is this Wednesday, October 13th! I took some photos of a room makeover this weekend that I'll be sharing at some point in the next few weeks, and it got me thinking about circles and dots. I think that's what my pattern inspiration post will be about on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to seeing what patterns/shapes inspire you!

This Place Is Fabulous...And Then Some!!!

I guess you can see where this is going.....
A little sun bathing in Capri perhaps???

A bit of an incredibly stylish 'get away' maybe???

Yes. That's right.

Just look at this place.
I think it is divine and would offer up my first born for a week here.
Oooooooh....
I am getting thirsty.

If you click on and enlarge the images,
and look closely
you will see
that there are several colors going on.
From taupe, khaki/camel, white, light beige, turquoise and celadon green.
The feel is relaxed, and it works.

Drum tables

The suites.

I noticed that the designer has done great work
with all of the upholstered pieces in this hotel.

This is just fun!

Look at the sofa.

The headboard.
......what would a holiday be without the sea and horses for me??
Even if you are
purely 'traditional'...
you could appreciate a holiday here.
NO?

I am off for a little boat ride and a bit of water skiing.
Would you like to come?

Creative Decorating Ideas for Bedrooms

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

This definitely wouldn't work in every bedroom, in fact probably not most, but (when it does) floating the bed is an interesting idea...

Rethink Design shows how they made a headboard for their bedroom using a template they created and a gold Sharpie (on Rate My Space)...

Chests, Shelves, A Headboard and Mirrors

THIS POST IS FROM ROOM REMIX - THE BLOG .

I'm sure that's one of the more creative post titles you've ever seen, isn't it? :-)

I'm still debating as to whether I would actually ever do this or not, but of course I like the fact that it's different and creative. Using two chests to the sides behind the sofa rather than a sofa table behind and end tables on the sides? What do you think? (image from CR Laine)

I wanted to include this image in my shelf inspiration post, but couldn't find it at the time. Isn't it interesting the way they created these shelves to follow the curve of the window? (image from BHG.com)

If you have an awkward corner in your bedroom, this idea from BHG.com might work for you. Rather than ignoring the corner, they maximized the space by creating a corner headboard storage unit. They've included reading-light wall sconces and electrical outlets, and the plug-ins are close at hand for alarm clocks, cell phone chargers, etc.

I know many of you have seen this already, but for those of you who haven't - Jenny at Pearl Street Interiors hung two inexpensive unframed IKEA mirrors (love the shape!) over the plain sheet mirror in her parent's bathroom using 3M hanging strips. I love the idea and the dimension that it adds, don't you? To see the rest of this makeover, click here...

This isn't really a mirror, but I like the shape of this Ghost Mirror from Country Living. Template and tutorial here.
