Hanging Pillows and Cushions
The cushioned banquette in the image below divides the kitchen from the eating area. Very clever idea, don't you think? But what really drew my attention in this image was the back cushion. Notice how rather than upholstering the back of the bench, they've hung a cushion from pegs?

A few things that could make this a great idea to copy:- If the fabric gets soiled (which can easily happen in any eating area), it can just be removed and cleaned (assuming they've made it with a zipper so that it can be removed).
- When you're tired of the fabric, just make a new cushion cover - no reupholstery required.
- It's unique and creates a different look than the expected upholstered back.
- The use of hooks would keep them in place a little more easily than just ordinary cushions or pillows.
In this Coastal Living Idea House, they used 3 twin size mattresses and fabric covered panels to create the daybeds in this sleeping porch. They do call them "hanging bed cushions", but in the image they almost appear to be attached to the wall, possibly with velcro strips or something similar? Just guessing, but it seems like that would be an additional solution to keep them from shifting around.

If pillows are more your style, Martha Stewart shows you to to make these hanging pillows.
What do you think? Is this an idea you would use?

Decorating With Ribbon
I doubt that the art in this home designed by Lynn Morgan Design is actually ribbon, but it looks like it could be, doesn't it?

A cute ribbon wall in this girl's room from Ivory Living...
It would be fairly simple to recreate the look of this Ballard slipcover using ribbon...

We've seen the idea of embellishing window treatments with ribbon before, but I thought this oversized tattersall pattern was interesting and the look could really change from cute to sophisticated depending on the fabric and style of ribbon used. Midwest Living gives you step by step instructions.
Two more of their projects with tutorials are:
Free form design pillow using gathered ribbon
Ribbon pillow using a variety of widths/textures/styles of ribbon...

Pom Pom/Ball Fringe
I've been seeing pom pom or ball fringe around a fair amount lately on everything from home decor to clothing (remember this scarf?) If you're a pom pom/ball fringe fan, this post shows you some ideas for incorporating it into your decor.
If you want to add some texture to your window treatment, how about using ball fringe like they did here? My inclination would have been to add the fringe to the inside edge, so the fact that they embellished the outside edge instead makes it more interesting to me.
If you really like ball fringe, you could make this very textural cornice from BHG.com. Complete tutorial here.
If that's a little much for you, how about just using pom poms on your curtain tieback? Perennials Fabrics
Some of the other places you could add this trim are fairly obvious such as pillows, bedskirts, ottomans, towels, lampshades, etc. but a not-so-obvious idea would be to trim your office shelves.
Domestifluff has a complete tutorial on how to make pom pom flowers to put in a vase...
or to add to your gifts...
Raffia pom pom drink stirrers from marthastewart.com. Tutorial here.

So does Pier 1...
I realize this is a Christmas project, but knowing me I won't remember that I found it by then so I'm posting it now. The tutorial for this snowball pom pom wreath is at marthatstewart.com...

Decorating with Letters and Numbers

Excuse this photo, but I took it with my cell phone in a little restaurant we stopped at a couple months ago. They had several walls accessorized this way and I thought it was interesting (and of course I had to take a photo in case someone in blogland could use the idea!)

Bird and Banner via Once Wed showed this project as a centerpiece idea, but the vintage numbered books could really be used anywhere you're accessorizing.

Creative Decorating for a Tuesday
Use two (or three) tablerunners horizontally across a table. Gives you a different look and they can double as placemats.
So let's just say that it's Tuesday (because it is :-) ) and you're looking around your house wondering what little thing you could do today to shake up your decorating a bit. Just a little. Not much. Just something fun or different that you may not have tried before. The list of things you could do is actually unending, but here are some ideas...
If you've never layered art on your fireplace mantel, why not try it for a different look?...
If your artwork is too small, make it bigger by attaching a thin piece of painted wood to the back like Just A Girl did for her spring mantel...
Paint a chalkboard on a door...
We've talked about painting the backs of bookshelves and papering the backs of bookshelves, but why not make it a little more interesting by doing a little of both and mixing up the patterns?...
Arrange your books by color...
Paint a funky mirror a fabulous color...
Add some lace to your favorite pillow...
Mix up your bar stools with different finishes or paint colors...
Update your family photos and make them a focal wall in one of your rooms or hallways...
Think outside the box on a new way to accessorize your dining room walls. This dining room wall would be a great one to use for inspiration!...
Paint your front door a bold or just different color...
There was a question in the comments on my decorating with mirrors post on whether I knew how to make a new mirror look old. I actually didn't, but found some sources that do....
