"I knew at the beginning of the season I would drive a strong contender with a RealTime Racing Acura, declares Wittmer, compared to last year when everything had to be done. The team is one of the best in America and you know you can take to the track with a good machine every time. But I still had to deliver good outings among a bunch of fierce competitors, some of them my temmates. And I have to admit I'm pretty satisfied with the turnout. I was hoping to win in Toronto or Mosport where I was familiar and had won before. In Toronto, I was leading when I made a little braking mistake and finished fifth. In Mosport, I was quickest but the rain spoiled the weekend and the all-wheel drive cars ran away.
When I started at Sebring in March, my goal was to finish each round and try to match Peter (Cunningham) and Pierre (Kleinubing), our team leaders. Then I realised I could earn a sport in the Top Five : I kept raking in good results, except for a bad outing at Watkins Glen. The team always gave me a perfect RSX. In Laguna, we had a full RealTime Racing podium but Pierre was slammed by the officials which gave me a second place in the race, a third in the overall standings and best RealTime driver. I feel like Christmas is early this year!"
Impressive victory in Trois-Rivières
Kuno also partnered on a few occasions with brother Nick in Grand-Am events. They had a few podiums but the season highlight came at the only event in Quebec when they won the ST race outright at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. "To be honest, I would have preferred a victory in the World Challenge, he said, but to win with my brother in Trois-Rivières has to be our season high. Just a perfect weekend that was."
Getting ready for 2008
The Wittmer brothers are looking at a few proposals for 2008 and Kuno would like to set something before Winter. " The RealTime Racing RSX will not be eligible next year, he adds, and I have to move up to a TSX. I would like to stay in the World Challenge and RealTime is showing a lot of interest. I think we could come to an agreement soon. There are some possibilities with Nick again in Grand-Am, but he will also have to come to an agreement. We should come up with a definite program within a few weeks."
