Raikkonen Wins F1 Title - For Now

By James Neilson

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen rebounded from a lackluster early season, winning the Brazilian Grand Prix and capturing the 2007 Formula 1 World Championship in the season's last race. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton came into the race leading the championship while his teammate, Fernando Alonso, sat in second with Raikkonen in third.

It didn't take long for Hamilton to toss his title hopes away, after going off on the opening lap, trying to get around Alonso, Hamilton's car slowed, apparently struggling with some sort of electronic glitch.

Ultimately his car kept going but it was clear by then that the Ferrari's had the speed over their McLaren rivals. Hamilton valiantly tried to get back into contention while Alonso could never get close to Felipe Massa or his Ferrari teammate, Riakkonen.

There was some controversy as Massa had led handily until a pitstop put him behind Raikkonen for the remainder of the race. Then, after the race, there were fuel irregularities found in the BMW's of Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, as well as the Williams of Nico Rosberg.

The stewards claim that Heidfeld's, Kubica's and Rosberg's cars fuel was below the tolerable limit but that it was almost impossible to prove the accuracy of the measurement, thus no penalty was applied.

McLaren has appealed the decision leaving the title up in the air for now. If Heidfeld, Kubica and Rosberg were to be disqualified Hamilton would be elevated to fourth, securing the World title in his rookie season.

Here we go again....
